The San Diego State University Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor with expertise in construction planning, execution and management of resilient infrastructure.
This position targets individuals who understand how large-scale infrastructure projects—such as highways, bridges, airports, mass transit, and utility networks—are planned, built, delivered, and maintained. The successful candidate will advance research and teaching in heavy civil construction operations and methods, constructability, project delivery methods, risk management of infrastructure projects, and related areas.
Infrastructure resilience: Climate adaptation, disaster recovery, resilient supply chains, risk-based infrastructure planning.
Infrastructure Constructability: Emphasis on the design-construction interface for improved constructability (project safety, risk, cost, schedule, etc.)
Construction Operations & Methods: innovative construction methods for infrastructure construction.
Project Delivery & Heavy Civil Management: Project delivery system to support infrastructure project objectives (Design-Build, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Public-Private Partnerships (P3), infrastructure asset management)
Risk management of infrastructure projects
Resilient Construction Execution: Field-level adaptation strategies for building in extreme environments, constructing under active climate threats, and scheduling around severe weather disruptions.
Workforce & Safety Systems: safety management systems, heavy-equipment and operational safety, and workforce training for heavy civil construction.
